They wanted to be able to print to their network printer from a remote desktop session. I found the printer and installed it and printed out a test page. Everything looked fine until I went under Devices and Printers and mysteriously the printer was nowhere to be found. I decided to open Printer Management, and expected to find them under there. There were no printers to be found underneath Print Management as well.

I went to print something and sure enough the printers showed in Quickbooks and I could print fine out of QuickBooks. Solution: I did some research online. The update that was causing this issue was KB My server was running Windows Server R2 so I decided to check my installed updates.

I clicked the update and uninstalled it.

The shared printers list still stays the same, so anyone connecting to the server to use a printer still sees the same list of printers, but it's getting a tad confusing with all these random extra printers appearing on the server. Yep, if someone remotes in to the server, the printers on their machine also get added to the list of printers on the print server.

I have the same issue. Printing works and the redirected printers are listed in the print dialog when printing from an application. However they do not appear in Devices and Printers. It does appear to affect all users on this server. We have a production enviroment made up of a single server RDS I know it's not supported by MS delivering desktop applications for accounting. Printers and devices shows a clock on the server indicating Device installation for a brief time upon connection.

However none of the printers gets connected. When trying connection from other client device the redirection is working and connecting with Admin sometimes helps but mostly not As You might understand of reading this We are totally clueless what is causing this, and We have none Idea what so ever what the sollution is when the issue appears I have the exact same problem.

Servers 7 and 8 are new servers that have just been cloned recently and not many users logon to them. I can however still see and print to the redirected printers under Notepad or Word, I just cannot see them under Devices and Printers. I can see the log for my user profile was able to create the printer and the default printer was changed to what I set to on my local machine.

OK, I've reinstalled Windows from scratch. Reinstalled all my applications and configured settings to be exactly the same as what I had previously. Now it's even worse, I can't get printers to be redirected on any R2 servers, even the ones that I've never had issues with. I'm thinking that perhaps there is a setting or a specific app that I'm using that's interfering or causing issues. Gonna use Veeam and create a backup of what I currently have, restore it to a test PC and manually uninstall one app at a time and test if that fixes the redirection.

If that doesn't work, gonna try reinstalling Windows and install one app at a time and test redirection. OK, this is bloody weird. Took a Veeam backup and restored it onto another machine. Powered on the other machine and all R2 servers have no problem showing redirected printers under Devices and Printers.

All problematic servers that I've had issues in the past have no problem. I went back to my old machine and check the BIOS for anything weird going on. There's nothing abnormal. If it was, redirection should not have worked for R2 servers.

There is an issue going around from research where machines that have 15 character long hostnames can have this issue, that is however not the case for my test machine.
