Ford Ranger owners have reported 8 problems related to automatic transmission column shift under the power train category. The most recently reported issues are listed below. I parked my truck Thursday night February 8, I placed the truck in park and removed the keys. When I returned to my truck early the next morning, I discovered that the truck was actually not in park, even thou the keys were out of it, and the shift indicator showed the vehicle being in park.
Had the truck been parked on an incline it could rolled away. I found the head of a small screw laying on my floorboard which have broken from the shifter. When I repaired the truck on Sunday I discovered a very disturbing situation where the gear selector is attached to the transmission cable. The assembly is held together by a small 6mm screw, which the head I found on the floorboards. This happened at 99k mileage. See all problems of the Ford Ranger.
Vehicle jumped into reverse and backed into the street. Managed to stop it but injured my knee.
Found pin from shifter mechanism on the floor under steering column that had fallen out of shifter. Shifter would not stay in "park" afterwards but kept jumping into "neutral" and "reverse". Spring tension of the shift indicator would pull it out of "park" as soon as the lever was released. Shifter would go into "neutral" and "reverse" at random.
Had to shut off the vehicle and restart when I left car even briefly - not something drivers normally do. Vehicle popped into "neutral" about 75 to times and into "reverse" about 50 times. Had to hold the lever in "park" to restart.
About a week or so after the initial failure, I heard a loud "sproing" and a "snap" sound. Shift indicator went all the way to the right in "d1" position. It never worked again. Shift lever now stays weakly in "park" but pops into gear sometimes. Ford dealer had no interest in problem and merely referred me to manufacturer. Manufacturer referred me back to the dealer. Shifter mechanism is defectively designed and not fit for its intended use.
Vehicle does not meet fmvss because critical shifter mechanism is defective and will fail catastrophically. Gear shift ought to work without failure for the life of the vehicle. Ford and its dealers do not have any measures in place to address this failure and instead try to push off corrective action, leaving the vehicle owner with a hazardous condition.
This failure has probably happened to others and is being underreported because of the actions of Ford and its dealers. If this defect is not corrected, it will ultimately kill somebody.
Nhtsa has a duty to call Ford and its dealers into account and require a recall to correct the defect. No events leading to failure. While trying to back out of a parking space the vehicle went forward.Forums New posts Search forums.

Didnt get me out and eventually I got pulled out. Now it wont get out of 4 low. Yes I know how to do it, foot on the brake and neutral but I'm afraid its broke because my car is not actually in 4 low.

Not sure if this applies to yours but sounds like the selector cable from your shifter could be broke. My car did the same thing and it had a broke cable. Have someone change the gears while your watch the linkage at the trans. One cable is the selector and the other is the shifter. The selector has to move for the trans to shift into 1, 2, 5 and reverse. The shifter cable will move for all gear to ingage.Colors tamil live online tv

It worked! I started it, put it in neutral, then 4x4low for a few seconds, then 4x4high then 4x4low, then D and the light for 4x4 went off! GuruBVKZ3 answered about a year ago. I had to incorporate all solutions : drive backwards and forward, disconnect the battery then drive back and forth till it switched into drive.
